Introduction
Microsoft Skype for Business (SfB) is a tool that enables unified communications. Using SfB users are able to send instant messages, interact with voicemail, make or receive phone calls, and check calendar appointments. This allows for fluid communication workflows to reduce the amount of time that is spent handling communications.
The Enterprise Voice functionality within Skype for Business is the technology that allows you to make and receive phone calls. Using the SfB client, on your computer, along with a USB headset, or VoIP desk phone, users can make or receive phone calls using VoIP technology. This also enables users to control their call forwarding, simultaneous ringing, and delegates.
With Skype for Business there is no distinction between single-line phones and multi-line phones. Other features of the system are utilized the enable the multi-line functionality if it is needed.
Skype for Business also allows users to hold online meetings that include full audio/video capabilities, including sharing of desktops, and presentations.
To utilize these features an appropriate device is needed. ISU has adopted devices specified by Microsoft as being certified for Skype for Business.
OIT is providing one device per traditional telephone replaced as part of the Skype for Business telephone migration project. Additional devices can be purchased separately. Some devices may require approval.
