University Account Information


The table below will provide general information about the University Account, username, password, and the MyISU portal.

University Account
  • This is an account automatically created through the Office of Information Technology for individuals when they become associated with the university as a student, faculty, or staff.  
University Email Account
  • This is an account automatically created through the Office of Information Technology for individuals when they become associated with the university as a student, faculty, or staff.  
  • This is the email account that all institutional messaging should utilize.
  • This is also known as the Microsoft Email Account that is used to authenticate into the University's Single Sign-On platform.

University Account Username
  • At the time the University Account is created, a username is created by the Office of Information Technology and must be activated by the individual. 
  • How to Activate Your University Account
  • The username is a combination of your first initial, last name, and sometimes a number.

Example, Sam Sycamore could be ssycamore or ssycamore5

University Account Password
  • A secure password is created by the individual at the time the University Account is activated.
  • Password must meet the standards below:
    • Length is a minimum of 12 characters
    • Password must not closely match your username (e.g., ssam1) or display name (e.g., Sycamore Sam).
    • The password must contain characters from at least three of the following categories.
      •  English uppercase characters (from A to Z) 
      • English lowercase characters (from a to z) 
      • Base 10 digits (from 0 through 9)
      • Non-alphanumeric characters (for example, !, $, or %)
    • The password must be changed every 180 days
  • Trouble Using University Account  Password (Microsoft KB)

Note: If you use a secondary system such as a mobile device to access ISU resources that use the University Username and password, please remember to turn it off or disable the system prior to setting a new password and remember to change your password on the secondary system before enabling it. Failing to do so may cause your account to be locked due to invalid login attempts with your old password. University Identification Number
  • This is a number created for individuals when they become associated with the University.
  • This is the number on your Sycamore Identification (ID) card.
MyISU Portal
  • A secure website environment for students, faculty, staff, and affiliates to manage their University Account, access web-based resources, and conduct most internal business with the University.
  • Go to to:
    • Reset your University Account password
    • Activate your University Username
    • Access email, Canvas, OrgSync, and more
    • Register for courses
    • Check your schedule
    • Update personal information
    • Check your financial aid or billing statement
    • Submit final grades

University Accounts are automatically created when you are associated with the university in some way. Whether you are a student, staff or faculty; you will have a university account created. This service will allow you to request help using your University Account.
