How to Connect to ISU-OPEN Wireless for Students, Faculty and Staff

Introduction

Access to the ISU-OPEN wireless network is available for students, faculty, and staff. It is provided for home or consumer-grade devices such as game consoles, televisions, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and other similar Internet of Things (IoT).

If you are storing, processing, or transmitting data that you wish to assure some level of privacy, use ISU-SECURE for your wireless network.

Steps

Automatic Connection

  1. Open the wireless connection panel of your device.
  2. Select the ISU-OPEN SSID from your devices list of available wireless networks. Please see the Manual Connection instructions below if your device does not detect the ISU-Open network.
  3. Once connected to the ISU-OPEN, you will be automatically redirected to the user authentication pages.  (You may need to open a web browser if your device does not automatically redirect you to the login page and accept the presented certificates from the network if prompted.)
  4. Enter your University Username and Password.
  5. Click Start to register your device so you will not have to login again.
  6. Enter a name for your device you can later recognize when you access the My Devices portal.
  7. You should be connected to ISU-OPEN.
  • You can register up to 10 Devices which will be held for up to 90 days since the last time it was on the network.   
  • If you have exceeded the number of devices for your account you will be prompted to remove a pre-existing device from your list.

Manual Connection

  1. If your device will not automatically connect to the ISU-OPEN network as illustrated above, you can manually set up the connection.
  2. Open the wireless connection panel of your device.
  3. Manually create a profile to connect to the SSID of ISU-OPEN.
  4. Set the encryption connection type to None or Open.

Conclusion

After following these steps your device will be connected to the ISU-OPEN wireless network at ISU. This is not a secure connection to the internet and does not encrypt your data. Students, Faculty, and Staff: If your device is unable to use a web browser to login and register you may use the instructions to register your device through the MYDEVICES portal.
