Standard Prohibiting Personal Access Points, Switches, and Routers on Campus Network

This standard is intended to make clear our prohibition against attaching personal communications devices such as personal WiFi hot spots, switches and routers to the ISU enterprise and residential life network.

  • This standard applies to students, faculty, staff, and any others utilizing ISU's enterprise and residential life network.
  • This standard applies to any equipment that may be attached to a network by an individual (e.g. personal access points, personal network switches, personal routers).

Exceptions may be granted only through consultation with the Office of Information Technology.  Such consultation MUST occur prior to connection of the personal device to the ISU-Secure network.

Personal wireless access points, network switches, and routers are not permitted on campus as they can interfere with the functioning of the campus network.
