IP Address Management

Description

All work related to the assignment of IP addresses to ISU campus systems.

Standard Services and Features

  • Create, modify, or remove individual IP address assignments in academic and administrative offices and buildings.
  • Create, modify, or remove networks for dynamic address assignment.
  • Provide consultation and technical support for inquiries on the operation and/or configuration of the system.

Constraints/Scope

  • This service is provided for faculty/staff only.
  • IP addresses not seen on the network for 120 calendar days or more, may be released back into the pool. Devices affected by this will have to be re-registered.
  • BOOTP / Registered DHCP IP addresses are only assigned to wired devices in academic or administrative offices or buildings. 
  • Wireless connections are DHCP only and static ip addresses are never assigned.
  • Student wired networks in Residential Life buildings are DHCP only and static ip addresses are never assigned.

Directions

If you are requesting an IP address assignment, include the system’s MAC address, contact information for the machine owner, and the desired subnet for the address. If you are requesting modification, include any information that you would like to be modified and a justification for its modification. 

For all other requests, such as consultation or technical support, be as descriptive as possible and you will be contacted by our support staff.

Networks are categorized as the following:

  • TRUSTED / Wired network connections for academic and administrative computers. These devices can not be directly connected to from off campus.
  • IOT- / Wired network connections for Internet Of Things (IOT) devices without Internet access. This is typically used for printers or other devices that need to be accessed by on premises resources only.
  • IOT+ / Wired network connections for Internet Of Things (IOT) devices with Internet access. This is typically used for printers or other devices that need to connect to a cloud managed service. These devices can not be directly connected to from off campus.
  • STUDENT / Wired network connections for Residential Life buildings. These are DHCP only networks and are managed through either the MyDevices portal or direct login to the network. These devices can not be directly connected to from off campus and static / reserved IP addresses are never assigned.
  • WIRELESS / All wireless networks on campus are DHCP only networks and are managed through either the MyDevices portal or direct login to the network. These devices can not be directly connected to from off campus and static / reserved IP addresses are never assigned.
  • SERVER / Wired network connections in the OIT Data Centers that have static ip address assignments.
