Banner Account Procedures

All security requests are forwarded to the appropriate security manager for approval.  We will copy the supervisor when the access is finally approved so they know the account has been created.

Three types of Account Activity must be approved by the Security Manager.

  1. New Account
  2. Modify Existing Account

Supervisor Request to Banner Security Manager

New Account - Information Needed for Security Manager:

  • New Employee
    • Employee Name
    • University ID
    • University Username
    • Verified signed FERPA
    • Requested Banner Account Name (default to University Username)
    • Requested Banner Access Type (STUDENT, AR, FINANCE, HR, etc.)
      • This would be used to determine the appropriate Banner Security Manager
    • General Purpose of the Account
  • Supervisor Employee Name
  • Supervisor University ID Number.

Modify Account - Information needed for Security Manager:

  • Employee Name
  • University ID
  • Requested Banner Access Type (STUDENT, AR, FINANCE, GENERAL IMAGE, HR, etc.)
  • General Purpose of the Request

 

Security Manager Requests to OIT

OIT should only receive account requests from Security Managers and our Service Level Expectations (SLE) will begin from this stage of the process.

  1. New Account
  2. Change to existing Account
    1. Request Access data outside the Security Manager’s Data Ownership.
    2. Change to access within the Security Manager’s Data Ownership

Requests from security managers asking for their worker(s) to be granted objects belonging another security manager will be sent to the appropriate personnel with a message saying “please approve or deny this request”.  In most cases, a security manager will respond with “grant them X security class”.  Sometimes, there is a need to create new security classes to fulfil this request and those instances will take longer to complete.

New Account Requests from Security Manager:

Information needed to get a new Banner account, all of which is forwarded to appropriate security manager(s):

  • Existing Info on from Supervisor Request
    • Employee Name
    • University ID
    • University Username
    • Verified signed FERPA
    • Requested Banner Account Name (default to University Username)
    • Requested Banner Access Type (STUDENT, AR, FINANCE, GENERAL IMAGE, HR, etc.)
    • General Purpose of the Request
  • New Info from Security Manager
    • FERPA Verification
    • Approval
    • Banner Class(es), Oracle Role(s) to be created, added.

Modification to Existing Accounts from Security Manager:

  • Existing Info from Supervisor Request
    • Employee Name
    • University ID
    • Requested Banner Access Type (STUDENT, AR, FINANCE, GENERAL IMAGE, HR, etc.)
    • General Purpose of the Request
  • New Info from Security Manager
    • FERPA Verification
    • Approval
    • Requested Banner Class(s) to be created, added or removed
