ArcGIS Pro Installation for Students

Introduction

ArcGIS Pro is a desktop geographic information system (GIS) software application designed for creating, analyzing, visualizing, and sharing geographic data and maps. It is developed by Esri, a leading provider of GIS technology and solutions. ArcGIS Pro is designed to be intuitive and easy to use, with a modern interface and tools that enable users to work with a variety of data formats, including shapefiles, geodatabases, and spatial databases.

System Requirements

Before attempting to install ArcGIS Pro on your machine, please check that your system meets the requirements from Esri: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/get-started/arcgis-pro-system-requirements.htm  ArcGIS Pro is only available for installation on Windows machines.

Steps

1. Visit https://indstate.maps.arcgis.com/home/index.html

2. Click the blue button that says Indiana State University

3. You will be prompted to enter your ISU email address and password.

4. You will be taken to the ISU ArcGIS home page.  Click on your username located at the top right corner of the page.  Select "My Settings".

5. On the left side of the page, select Licenses.

6. Under Licensed Products, you will see an entry for ArcGIS Pro.  Click on the blue "Download ArcGIS Pro" link.

7. A prompt will appear for the download.  The newest version available will be displayed.  The drop down box provides options for other languages.  Click the blue "Download" button to start downloading the installer.

8. The installer is fairly large.  The file may take several minutes to finish downloading.

9. Run the installer: Once you have downloaded the installer, run it and follow the prompts to begin the installation process. You may need to agree to the terms of the license agreement and choose an installation location.

10. You may receive an error during the initial stages of installation.  This is due to missing .NET Desktop Runtime.  ArcGIS needs the component to function.  If you receive the message, visit: https://download.visualstudio.microsoft.com/download/pr/035efed3-6386-4e1d-bcbc-384a20ebf47e/abfbea2303e0ce9cb15d430314e5858f/windowsdesktop-runtime-6.0.14-win-x64.exe This will automatically download the needed file.  Launch the file after download.  Accept all defaults and install the program.  After installation, you may need to restart the ArcGIS Pro installer.

11. After the installation has completed, launch ArcGIS Pro.

12. A prompt for sign-in will display.  Click "Your ArcGIS organizations URL".

13. Enter indstate into the field next to maps.arcgis.com.  Also, make sure to select the check box for "Remember this URL".  This will keep you from having to repeat this step in the future.  Click Continue.

14. Click the blue "Indiana State University" button.

15. You will now be prompted to enter your ISU credentials.  Enter your ISU email address and password.

16. The software should now log you in and will be fully licensed.  Future logins to the program can be done by clicking the "Indstate" option at the sign in screen.
