Term Definition
Contact Group  A contact group (formerly called a "distribution list") may be created and used to send an email to multiple people such as a project team, committee, department, without having to add each name to the To, Cc, Bcc line individually.
Microsoft 365 Group A Microsoft 365 Group, also referred to in Oulook as Group, may be created and used to collaborate with a specific set of people and use the same email distribution list, calendar, shared document storage, Planner, OneNote Notebook.

Special Concepts

Contact Group and Microsoft 365 Groups may be created in Outlook.  The Contact Group is referring to the distribution list and Group is referring to the Microsoft 365 Group.
