How to Obtain a Hardship Loaner

Introduction

Hardship Loaners, also known as Exception Loaners, are laptops that can be given out to students in need. This article will outline how students can obtain a hardship loaner and follow university guidelines outlining loaned laptops.

How to Request and Obtain a Hardship Loaner

1. Fill Out the Application Form

Click this link to access the form: https://cm.maxient.com/reportingform.php?IndianaStateUniv&layout_id=3. Please fill out all required information within the form. In the sections asking you about behaviors, please simply put that you are requesting a Student Hardship Loaner from OIT.

2. Respond to Dean of Students' Email

After you have submitted this form, you will be contacted by the Dean of Students' office, where one of their representatives will go over the application form and inform you of your responsibility for the loaner. You must respond to this email in order to obtain a hardship loaner.

3. Obtaining and Setting Up a Hardship Loaner

The Dean of Students' office will send your form over to OIT, where your hardship loaner will be setup. When the loaner is ready for pick up, you will be contacted to set-up an appointment with the Technology Support Center. When you arrive to pick up your hardship loaner, you will need to provide OIT with a list of software that you need installed as you cannot install software onto this device without an admin password. Microsoft Office and the Respondus LockDown Browser will be installed automatically. You will then sign a contract acknowledging the following: the term of the loan, the cost of the laptop and your responsibilities for the laptop, and what happens if you fail to return the laptop.

Rules for Hardship Loaners

Term of the Loan

Most loan terms will be until the end of the current semester. At the end of Fall semesters, if you would like to continue the loan through the Spring semester, you must contact OIT for a continuation. Loan terms may not be extended past the last day of the Spring semester.

Eligibility Requirements

You must be a current student, taking classes in the current semester, to be eligible for a laptop loan. If you leave the University for any reason, the laptop must be returned immediately.

Return

You are responsible for returning the device at the end of the loan term. If it is not returned within 7 days, the device will be locked. If the computer is not returned within 30 days, your account will be charged for the full amount listed on your loan agreement.

Damage

Incidental damage may occur during your loan term and is expected with use. Please contact the Technology Support Center immediately to report any damage for repair. If the damage is evaluated to be caused with intention or due to neglect, you may be charged for the device or repair costs.
