OIT no longer offers free printing and complimentary design for faculty research posters. We have put together a list of tips and best practices for students and for faculty who choose to design their own posters. For more in-depth tips, view the Conference Poster Design PowerPoint presentation.

Estimated Time to Complete

Reviewing this guide will take no more than 5 minutes

• Start your poster design at actual size. From the Design tab in PowerPoint, choose Slide Size and enter your dimensions. We recommend 48”x36”, but if your conference requires specific dimensions, we can accommodate custom sizes.

• Use a font size of at least 27 points to ensure readability. Exceptions for this are the acknowledgments and references sections.

• Margin space is critical for readability and clean design. Leave as much space between your text and the edges of the poster as possible and allow for space between columns of text, as well. On a 48”x36” poster, aim for a minimum of half-inch margins.
