How to Report Suspicious Emails

Introduction

This article provides instructions on how to use the “Report Message” add-in in Outlook for reporting suspicious emails. This is a change from the previous process where emails were forwarded to “stop-spoofing@indstate.edu”.

Steps

1. Select the suspicious email: Do not click on any links or download any attachments in the email. Simply open it to view the contents.

2. Click on the “Report Message” button: This button is located in the top ribbon of your Outlook application. Depending on your version of Outlook this button may look different. You may need to click the “…” button to expand the menu options.

Conclusion

After your email has been reported it will be moved to your junk folder and sent to the security team for review. If we determine that the email is phishing or spam we will reply to you with a verdict. Remember, do not click on any links in the email or respond to it until you hear back from the security team. Thank you for helping keep ISU secure!
