Introduction
Microsoft offers two tiers of Copilot experiences: Copilot Chat and Microsoft 365 Copilot. While they share the same AI foundation, their capabilities and access levels differ significantly. This guide explains the differences and outlines how to request the advanced license.
Note: Each license costs $360 per year and will be billed to the requesting department.
Steps
Request the Advanced License
- Submit a request by completing the Microsoft Forms application for Copilot License. Include details about the project(s) or task(s) for which you need the license.
- Your request will be routed to your supervisor for approval, including review of the need, cost, and billing.
- Once approved, you’ll be invited to watch a video on data security as it relates to AI.
- After completing the video you will be invited to schedule an in-person training session which covers usage and best practices.
- After completing the training—which covers AI fundamentals, safety, ethics, and Copilot usage—you must pass a short quiz via Microsoft Forms.
- Upon passing the quiz, a license request will be created in the ticketing system (TDX), and the license will be issued to you.
