Introduction
Beginning May 14, 2025, all ISU Canvas users will have their ISU ID photo uploaded automatically into Canvas accounts from Banner. For ISU accounts with a confidentiality flag, no photo will be uploaded into Canvas from Banner and a default blank icon will display. ISU users will not be able to add nor edit a profile photo to Canvas.
The automatic profile picture upload enables the Photo Roster feature for ISU instructors to better view their course rosters. ISU instructors will have a Photo Roster button displayed in the People page in Canvas courses.
Steps for Using the Photo Roster Feature
1. In your Canvas course, click People in the course navigation
- The standard Canvas enrollment page will display with the small user ID photos
2. Click the Photo Roster button
- Larger student photos (120px by 150px) will display with the user's name below their picture.
- Students marked Inactive in a course will not have a photo display.
- This page can be printed out.
3. Click People in the course navigation again to return to the standard enrollment view.
Additional Information
The Photo Roster button is only visible to ISU instructors and Canvas administrators. All student and instructor ID photos are uploaded from Banner and will display in Canvas courses.
