Description

Canvas is an enterprise Learning Management System with many external applications/LTIs that can be integrated into the system. External Applications (also known as External Tools or LTIs) are tools and utilities, usually from a third-party vendor, that integrate into Canvas. Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) is an open standard that allows external learning applications to connect to Canvas without logging into each individual application. 

  • Each external application/LTI must be evaluated and tested prior to being approved for Canvas integration. 

Standard Service and Features

When submitting a Canvas External Application/LTI Integration Request form, please be aware the integration process can take a significant amount of time.

  •  Use the Canvas External Application/LTI Integration Request Form button in the upper right of this page.
    • You will need v​​​​​endor contact information to complete the request form.
  • External applications/LTIs must be evaluated and tested to ensure security, privacy, compatibility, and functionality within Canvas.
  • During this evaluation and testing, OIT teams work with vendors, which can take a significant amount of time depending on the vendors’ responses.
    • Please be aware that we cannot guarantee a timeline and course planning should take this into consideration.
  • When approved, LTI integrations will be done after the current semester’s final grades deadline and prior to the start of the next semester. 

SLA:  OIT will reach out to confirm the request and request more information, if necessary, within 7 business days.  

Constraints/Scope

Faculty may request Canvas External Application/LTI integrations at any time. However, please be aware the integration process can take a significant amount of time for evaluation and testing. When approved, LTI integrations will be done after the current semester’s final grades deadline and prior to the start of the next semester. 

Vendors frequently contact faculty directly about Canvas integration. We can provide initial guidance on what options are possible for ISU Canvas integration.
