Summary

When using Microsoft Teams in a web browser, you may find that an app can't access your camera, microphone, speakers, or location. This article applies to Microsoft Teams for the web with work or school accounts.

    • Microsoft Edge: Access browser tab > click three dots in top right hand corner > Click delete browsing data > Ensure time range is All Time > Ensure browsing history, download history, cookies and other site data, and cached images and files is check marked > Click Clear Now
  • Ensure your browser is updated

    • Microsoft Edge: Access browser tab > click three dots in top right hand corner > select settings > Click About Microsoft Edge > Update Edge (if prompted)

Camera & Microphone Permissions

If the meeting fails to detect your audio or video, you may need to manually grant access in your browser's settings.

Google Chrome: Access Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Permissions > Camera/Microphone. Select "sites can ask to use your camera" and ensure your device is selected from the drop-down menu

Microsoft Edge: Access Settings > cookies and site permissions > Camera/microphone. Ensure the toggle for "Ask before accessing" is enabled.

Safari: (Note: Teams in Safari is only in preview) Access Preferences > Privacy and clear "prevent cross-site tracking" check box

Browser Compatibility & Troubleshooting:

Supported Browsers: For the best performance, Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome (Safari is preview-only)

Third-party Cookies: Teams often fails to load or sign in if your browser blocks third-party cookies or cross-site tracking. Temporarily disable these blocks in your privacy settings if you encounter a sign-in loop

Link Redirects: If your desktop Teams application keeps opening instead of the browser, use an Incognito window or copy the meeting link directly and paste it into the browser address bar manually.
