Windows 11: 25H2 Feature Update Information

Highlighting all the user-end features of Windows 11's new 25H2 feature update, including brief install instructions.

Introduction

The 25H2 update is the next major feature update for the Windows 11 system, adding a host of enhancements for performance, customization, and AI integration. Many of its features were already added and dormant in the previous 24H2 package and are simply activated thru an ‘enablement package’, meaning installation should take minimal time and effort. Installation Instructions

This patch will show up and automatically download in Windows Update unless you have updates manually paused. If it does not show up, make sure to have the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available’ toggle turned on. 

Because many of this update’s features are already baked into the previous update’s (24H2) core, downloading this update should not take too much downtime. Regardless, make sure to keep your PC plugged in and put some time aside to let it load.

New Features

Revamped Start Menu 

25H2 remodels the Windows Start Menu to offer more customization flexibility. You can now switch between 3 views: 

• Category view, which groups apps by type 

• Compact grid, which packs apps densely for quick access 

• Traditional list, which resembles the old start menu layout 

This update also offers greater control over pinned apps, and the option to disable app recommendations for a cleaner look. 

Enhanced AI Integration

25H2 allows access to Copilot in a few new spots, the most impactful being File Explorer. Copilot offers context-aware tasks like “visual search” and AI-powered file shortcuts: 

For those with Window’s new line of Copilot+ computers, this update offers even more features: 

• Click to Do: Reads and acts on text/images on screen in anticipation of user actions. 

• Recall (preview): Search screen snapshots with image processing capabilities. 

• Improved Search: Adds semantic (conceptual) indexing for smarter results. 

• Agent in Settings: AI helps find settings, troubleshoot, & automate tasks. 

Productivity & Workflow 

25H2 offers a host of features to streamline work and troubleshoot problems on your both the client and enterprise end: 

• Phone Link Integration: Better connection and sync between Windows and smartphones, including content sync between networks & drag-and-drop between devices 

• Cross-Device Resume: Seamlessly pick up work on a different windows device. 

• Quick Machine Recovery: Enhanced searching for fixes when encountering boot-preventing issues.

• Share with Copilot: A new toggle to share windows with Copilot, offering additional context to tasks 

• Performance & Connectivity Enterprise Wi-Fi 7 Support: Enables next-gen wireless speeds and stability for business networks.

• Optimized Power Management: Diagnostic tools for energy efficiency and performance analytics.

Miscellaneous Improvements 

• Support Lifecycle Reset: Refresh the 24-month (36 for enterprises) support window. 

• Lock Screen Widgets Customization: Tailor the widget panel on the Lock Screen. 

• Dark Mode in File Explorer: Consistent dark-theme support in all File Explorer elements.
