Body
Issue
- Device requiring registration every day or each time you come back after leaving the network.
Environment/ Application
- Android 10 and Apple iOS 14 or later devices
- Connecting to ISU networks
Cause
- Many devices now use MAC Randomization for each wireless network (SSID). This feature is enabled by default, but can be disabled for specific WiFi networks.
- Random MAC Addresses can be identified if it has the second character in a MAC address, if it is a 2, 6, A, or E. For example the following are the patterns of RANDOM MAC addresses.
- *2-**-**-**-**-**
- *6-**-**-**-**-**
- *A-**-**-**-**-**
- *E-**-**-**-**-**
- Generally speaking most devices when connected to a wireless network will hold the same RANDOM MAC address for as long as the definition exists on the device. However, if you tell the device to FORGET the network or the wireless configuration gets deleted. It will recreate a new RANDOM MAC address for that definition.
- To see what your RANDOM MAC address is varies by device.
