Adding Plans from Templates

Introduction

While you can only add a Project Template to a project when you first create a project, you can add individual plans from an existing Project Template, one by one.

Vocabulary

Term Definition
Project Template .A project template is a predefined set of project components and plans that can be applied to any new project at project creation.
Project Plan A set of related, and interdependent tasks that describe the work to be completed on a project.
Project Component Preconfigured modules (e.g. Team, Feed, Briefcase) that are used to facilitate the management of a project.
Plan Template A plan that is preconfigured and is part of a project plan template.

Preconditions: 

  1. The project should already be created.
  2. Your security role must allow you to Add, Edit, and Delete Plans
  3. Your security role must allow you to Add, Edit, and Delete Tasks

Steps

  1. Open your Project in TDNext (Technician View)
    1. This can be done via the Projects app or the Project Manager (My Projects) desktop.
  2. Select the Plans component
  3. Click the  button to add a New Plan
  4. Create New Plan
    1. Provide a name for the plan
    2. Provide a description of the plan
    3. Select "Use Plan from Existing Project Template"
    4. Click Save
  5. Selecting the Plan
    1. Select the Project Template from the drop down list
    2. Click Create
  6. View the plan that was just created and modify as necessary

The following shows the steps to create a new plan from an Existing Project Template:

Step 1:  Open Projects/Workspaces
Step 2:  Select the Project Step 3: Create New Plan
Step 4:  Selecting the Plan Step 5:  View the Plan

Conclusion

Using preconfigure project plans will help the Project Manager by simplifying creating the necessary project plans and will provide a measure of consistency between projects.
