How to Sign In to a Polycom VVX Phone

Introduction

Skype for Business Enterprise Voice provides telephony services to users.  They will access the service either by using a headset or desk phone.  For access using a desk phone, the following guide will assist you in logging in to your phone.

You will need to log in to your phone again after you change your university password, or after your account has been locked out.

Note:  This guide only applies to users on the Skype for Business system using a Polycom desk phone.  This DOES NOT apply to traditional telephone users.

Special Concepts

The Polycom BToE Connector can be utilized on comptuers running Windows OS that are connected to the network through their phone.  This connector is software that can be installed on your computer to aid in the sign in process.  For more information see the related articles.

When logging in to your phone, using either the telephone interface or the BToE Connector, it is important that you use your email address for both the Sign In Address and the Username.  If your email address isn't used your phone will generate Exchange authentication errors.

Steps

Using Polycom BToE Connector

Note:  This process requires that you have the Polycom BtoE Connector installed, running, and paired with your phone.  For more information see the related articles.  If you are using an Apple computer, you will need to use the phone interface as shown below.

  1. Launch Skype for Business
  2. When prompted, enter your login information for your phone (You will only be prompted if your phone is not currently signed in).
    1. Sign-in address:  Your email address
    2. User name:  Your email address
    3. Password:  Your university password
  3. Click OK

Using Phone Interface

Standard Desk Phone

  1. Access the sign-in screen on your phone by selecting "Sign In" on the main screen of the phone
  2. Select "User Credentials"
  3. Verify that the Sign in address and User name fields contain your email address.  The Domain field should remain empty.
  4. Select the "Password" field
  5. With the password highlighted, press the backspace "<<" button to erase the password
  6. Using the keypad, enter your password.  Note:  You will use the "Encoding" button to select uppercase characters as needed (Use the arrow pad to scroll to the appropriate encoding and then press the middle button on the arrow pad to select it.  You will see the encoding menu disappear when you have selected.).  Special characters are located in the following keys on the keypad:
    1 key: ! | ‘ ^ \ @ : 1
    * key: * - & % + ; ( )
    0 key: / , _ $ ~ = ? 0
    # key: # > < { } [ ] “ ‘
  7. After entering your password, press the "Sign In" button.  If you do not see the "Sign In" button, press "More" to access it.

Reception Style Desk Phone

  1. Access the sign-in screen on your phone by selecting "Sign In" on the main screen of the phone
  2. Select "User Credentials"
  3. Verify that the Sign in address and User name fields contain your email address
  4. Select the "Password" field
  5. With the password highlighted, press the backspace button to erase the password,  The backspace button is on the right side of the selected field.
  6. While the password field is selected, press the keyboard button in the top-right corner of the screen
  7. Using the on-screen keyboard, enter your password.
  8. After entering your password, press the "Sign In" button.

Conclusion

After completing the steps above, it is expected that you will be signed in to your phone.  If you are unable to log in, using this guide, contact the Helpdesk for further troubleshooting.
